Patio Mister

A patio mister has made it easier to entertain outside even if it is a hot, Georgia afternoon. There are several ways of doing it - from patio umbrella misters, to free standing mist stands that can be placed around the yard. The ultra-fine mist cools outdoor temperatures up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Simply attach any standard garden hose to the hose adapter and turn on the water.
Mister Systems
Mister systems work by creating a very fine mist from forcing water through a real, tiny opening.
Once this fine mist is exposed to the hot air, the mist quickly absorbs the heat and evaporates.
This is known as Flash Evaporation. It takes heat from the surrounding area, and drops the temp by up to 30 degrees F.
The concept is to cool people off through dropped temperatures and not by getting them wet.
The important feature to look for is a very fine mist that will quickly evaporate. Some of the cheaper models don't achieve this so people and furniture do get wet.
1. The higher the pressure the finer the mist and the more drop in temperature
2. The finer the mist, the better the results - more cooling and a larger area is cooled.
Water Mister
The three main factors to consider are:
1. The size of the nozzle opening
Water comes out of a the nozzles which have a very tiny opening - actually smaller than the diameter of the human hair.
2. The Water Pressure
Higher pressure forces more water out of the misters and produces the finest mist which is the most efficient. A finer mist evaporates quicker and cools down the temperature more efficiently.
3. The Number of Misters
The more misters you have, the more water you use.
Outdoor Mister
There are basically three levels of pressure for a patio misting system:1. Low Pressure Low Pressure misting using only water pressure and no pump. Therefore the mist is determined by the water pressure, and its flow rate. Normally in the USA, house water pressure ranges between 35 psi and 90 psi. You can expect a drop in temperature of 25 degrees F. 2. Medium Pressure Medium pressure misting is 100 - 250 psi. It requires a pump to achieve this and you can expect a little better temperature drop of 30 degrees F. 3. High Pressure High Pressure misting actually generates fog, which is the finest and ideal mist. However, because it takes high pressure pumps, stainless steel tubing and metal fittings to handle the high pressure it is way too costly. This level is 800 - 1200 psi with an even better 35 degree F drop in temp. A patio mister system can be installed along the perimeter of your porch or covered lanai.
This handy misting tower is easy to set up so there is no installing tubes and nozzles. It can be moved anywhere there is access to a hose. The tower has an adjustable height to 7 feet and has 5 nozzles. An in-line sediment filter (not included) is recommended to prevent the nozzle from clogging. What I like is that it can be placed anywhere on the pool deck, next to your chaise lounge or near your outdoor patio table, it's up to you. For simplicity this misting system can't be beat.
