Resin Umbrella Base

A resin umbrella base is one of the least expensive, yet durable outdoor umbrella stands. Made of heavy plastic it needs to be filled with sand or water to give it weight. This means more time and effort on your part especially if you use sand. You will need to go buy the sand and then pour all of the sand into a little hole.

These stands can be purchased in a variety of colors to match the pole or frame. Since they are not as attractive as cast iron umbrella stands, you may want to consider using them under a patio table rather than as a free standing umbrella base. However, many people do use them for free standing umbrellas and if you decide that that is what you want, be sure to find one with a longer neck.

If you use water to fill it, be sure to empty it in the fall before it freezes.

Outdoor Umbrella Stand

It is important to know what the weight of the resin outdoor umbrella stand is when completely filled with sand or water.

The size of the outdoor patio umbrella and the placement of the umbrella determines the weight that is needed to keep the umbrella secure and stable. Free standing umbrellas require more weight than ones that are going through a hole in the middle of your patio table.

Patio Umbrella Bases

Here are some general weight guidelines for purchasing patio umbrella bases:

35 lbs or less for a 6 to 7.5-foot umbrella in a table

40 to 55 lbs for a 7.5 to 9 foot umbrella in a table

65 to 75 lbs for 9 to 11 foot umbrella in a table or up to a 9 foot wide free standing (if it isn't really windy)

100+ lbs will support any free standing umbrella. They are not normally used with tables.

Heavier stands are recommended when using an umbrella without a table, in very windy areas, or with a tilt option.
